H&R Block Tax Accountants - Cairns

I have used H&R Block for many years, including other branches in Sydney, and the Cairns branch was outstanding for a long time. Unfortunately, over the past two years, my experience changed significantly. My tax returns were not completed and lodged, and despite numerous emails and phone calls, I received no response from the accountant managing my file. As a long-term client, this was extremely disappointing. I don't like changing accountants, but I felt I had no choice but to take my business elsewhere. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe potential clients should be aware of my experience. I sincerely hope H&R Block addresses these issues so other long-term clients receive the level of service the firm was once known for.

Not bad could of help me out a little more

I am extremely disappointed with the advice and service I have received from H&R Block over the last two years. In 2024, I went to H&R Block to have my tax return completed. During my appointment, I was told there was an old tax return from when I was younger that had never been lodged and that I could potentially receive around $1,000 if I lodged it. I was advised to complete that return myself because H&R Block would charge another $225 to prepare it. Following that professional advice ended up costing me dearly. Instead of receiving money back, I was issued with a tax debt of approximately $4,500 by the ATO. Since then, I have spent countless hours trying to resolve the issue with the ATO, with little success, and I have not received a tax refund because every refund has gone towards that debt. During that same appointment, I was also advised to download the Driversnote app to track my work kilometres so I could claim my vehicle expenses. At no point was I told that I also needed to record my odometer readings. When I returned to H&R Block in 2025, I was told I could not claim my full work kilometres because my odometer readings hadn't been recorded. I was only able to claim around 2,300 km instead of the approximately 5,000 km I had actually travelled. Rather than acknowledging that this crucial information had never been explained to me, I was made to feel as though it was my fault. To make matters worse, I emailed the office to raise my concerns and never even received the courtesy of a response. It's now been almost three years, and I am still dealing with the financial consequences that began after following the advice I was given. I returned to H&R Block hoping for better service, but unfortunately experienced the opposite. I expected professional advice, clear guidance, and support from a tax agent. Instead, I have been left out of pocket, with an ongoing tax debt, and completely ignored when I tried to resolve my concerns. I cannot recommend H&R Block based on my experience.

Terrible service!! I asked in advance whether they could help with my tax return if I moved back to Germany, and I was told it would be no problem. After that, I constantly had to wait an extremely long time (several days) for responses. Then a problem came up because I never received the SMS needed to confirm my identity. I was told they were looking for a solution and would get back to me. After that, I never received a reply to any of my emails. As a result, my taxes are now completely lost because I relied on this company. I would give 0 stars if that were possible.
