I have been a client with H&R Block for over 20 years and have always found the people I deal with to be friendly and professional. They have always endeavored to get me the best result possible and I will always remain a loyal customer.
I wish I could give 0 stars. After 20 years as a loyal H&R Block client, I’m taking my business elsewhere—and urging others to do the same. Three years ago, the Maitland office made a critical mistake on my tax return (which was incredibly simple), resulting in a $2,000 government fine. When I contacted them for accountability, the response was appalling: Zero Responsibility: The staff member I spoke to claimed he "didn’t know anything" about the error. No apology, no effort to investigate. Unprofessional Excuses: The Newcastle office later speculated over the phone: “Maybe the software messed up, or maybe the accountant did—who knows?” This dismissive attitude is unacceptable for a paid service. Financial Harm: I had to pay the fine myself despite their error. H&R Block’s so-called "Accuracy Guarantee" clearly didn’t apply here—or they refused to honor it. Audit Nightmare: Their mistake triggered an audit, wasting my time and adding stress. Final Straw: After decades of trust, their refusal to take ownership or offer restitution shows how little they value clients. I highly recommend seeking alternatives—smaller local accountants or even DIY software would’ve been more reliable. Advice to Others: If H&R Block makes an error, you’ll likely be left holding the bag. Their guarantees aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.
